PURPOSE:To produce an ion exchange membrane of improved durability, e.g. under high temperature by adhering a paste comprising a mixture containing a specified monomer, a crosslinking agent and a polymerization catalyst and a fine PE powder to a PE cloth base, polymerizing the monomer and introducing an ion exchange group into the polymer. CONSTITUTION:A paste is obtained by mixing a mixture containing a monomer having a functional group suitable for introducing an ion exchange group (e.g. styrene), a crosslinking agent (e.g. divinylbenzene) and a polymerization catalyst (e.g. benzyl peroxide) as the principal components with a fine PE powder of a particle diameter <=10mum. This paste is adhered to a 10-200 mesh PE cloth base in the form of, e.g. woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, mesh or porous sheet by coating, impregnation or the like, the monomer is polymerized, and an ion exchange group is introduced into the polymer. |
