<p>A modular telephone connector (20) includes a housing (22) defining a standard telephone jack, a contact carrier (23) that mounts a plurality of metal contacts (24) each having resilient cantilever jack forming portions (74) and insulation displacement portions (75) and a wire positioning fixture (21) having aligned first and second rows of wire guide channels (33) and (45). The connector (20) is assembled by latching the contact carrier (23) and contacts (24) to the housing, positioning wires (26) through first and second wire guide channels (33) and (45) of the wire positioning fixture (21) and securing the fixture to the housing (22) and contact carrier (23) with latch arms (29) formed on the fixture. The insulation displacement portion (75) of each contact is positioned in alignment with and between first and second wire guide channels (33) and (45) to engage and terminate a wire positioned in the first and second wire guide channels.</p> |
