The gas-blow-out switch has a compression space for the extinguishing gas consisting of two relatively-moving bottoms. The first bottom faces the switching gap and is operated by the switching action and is provided with a non-return valve in a hole leading from the compression space to a gas storage space. The extinguishing gas passes from this storage space to a channel leading to the switching gap. The second bottom (7) is held by an arrester (12) such that the volume of the compression space (5) tends towards zero when the extinction distance (13) for arc extinction is reached. The arrester is released when this distance is reached so that the second bottom slides with minimum force in the direction of the break motion. The non-return valve closer as a consequence of the reduced pressure in the compression space. ADVANTAGE - Efficient use of drive energy to extinguishers.
