发明名称 WAVEGUIDE TYPE OPTICAL SWITCH
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a low-loss and low-crosstalk optical switch by composing the waveguide type optical switch of 1st electrode group, partial waveguides which are formed of semiconductors at parts of branching optical waveguides and have band gap wavelength in the vicinity of the operating wavelength of light in use, and 2nd electrode groups which are formed on the partial waveguides respectively. CONSTITUTION:The two branching optical waveguides 12 and 13 branch from a main optical waveguide 11 in a Y shape at a branching angle theta and the 1st electrode groups 12a and 13a are formed on the branching optical waveguides almost right behind the branching point to constitute switching parts on the branching optical waveguides; and parts of downstream-side branching optical waveguides which are isolated from the switching parts are formed of the semiconductors and the 2nd electrode groups 12b and 12b are formed on them. Then the semiconductors have their band gap wavelengths in the vicinity of the operating wavelength of waveguide light, so the migration of electrons to a conduction band or valence electron band is generated to generate what is called induced emission, the waveguide light is amplified, and a crosstalk light component is absorbed by an amplification and absorption part. Consequently, the optical switch which has low loss and low crosstalk is obtained.
