In dealing with contaminated transformers which have been charged with insulating oil contg. polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) or polychlorinated terphenyls (PCT) which is allowed to run out, or is sucked out, through an opening in the transformer reservoir and is replaced, after heating the transformer, by an insulating oil free from PCB or PCT, the prim. and/or sec. coil (41,42,43) of the transformer (1) is loaded for a pre-determined time by a current of pre-determined current strength, and the transformer reservoir (2) is charged, after a cooling phase, with the oil free from PCB or PCT. ADVANTAGE - A high degree of regeneration of the transformer is achieved in a short time, with low expenditure of energy. Exposure of workers to vapours contg. PCB or PCT is avoided.
