The mechanically operated fuel pump for delivering fuel to an IC engine has a suction chamber (68) and a delivery chamber (69) with each chamber being fitted with a spring loaded non-return valve (58,66). The pump has a piston which is fitted with a rolling diaphragm (43). The delivery chamber (69) is fitted with a device (76) to damp the pressure fluctuations in the chamber (69). The device (76) consists of a first chamber (77) which communicates with the delivery chamber (60) and a second chamber (78) which is separated from the first chamber (77) by a spring loaded diaphragm (78,89) which allows the volumes of the chambers (77,78) to change with changing pressure.
