Hydrobrominated derivatives of compounds CH2=CR1R2, where R1 is hydrogen, alkyl o haloalkyl and R2 is alkyl or haloalkyl, are prepared by continuously contacting, within a previously formed volume of the hydrobrominated derivative, the unsaturated reactant with HBr and an organic peroxide catalyst, the molar ratio of the unsaturated reactant to HBr being at least 0,8 : 1. The products are terminally brominated. Specified reactants are propylene, butene-1, isobutene, octene-1, 2-ethylhexene-1, octadecene-1, 3-chlorobutene-1, and alkyl bromide. The Provisional Specification refers to "terminal olefines" generally, but excluding ethylene, and mentions diolefines such as butadiene; there is no restriction on the molar ratio of olefine to HBr. |
