Temperature control of electrophotographic roller

A temperature control system for the heat roller of an electrophotographic printer keeps the temperature of the heat roller in a predetermined operating range RU to RL when printing is executed, and in a predetermined standby range SU to SL, which is lower than the operable range, when printing is unexecuted. The temperature of the heat roller is controlled (at t4) to be raised up to the upper limit of the operating range before it is allowed to cool (at t5) the standby range when printing is terminated. This reduces the time required to heat the roller to the operating range in the event that printing is again required shortly afterwards.
