PURPOSE:To reduce the driving load of a carriage thereby to realize high-speed recording and achieve multi-color recording for a longer time in a stabilized manner by providing the carriage onto which a recording head comprised of a plurality of discharge ports, a first and a second tanks in one body is mounted, and a control means for controlling driving of the recording head and carriage. CONSTITUTION:A recording head which has, for example, three ink-jet nozzles N1-N3 and a sub tank ST is mounted on a carriage CA driven by a linear motor. The linear motor constitutes a magnetic closed circuit by a permanent magnet PM, a magnetic plate Y1, a magnetic sliding shaft Y2 and the like members. When a current is fed to a coil C wound around a coil bobbin CB slidable along the magnetic sliding shaft Y2, the carriage CA which is integrally formed with the coil bobbin CB is driven to slide in a direction corresponding to the polarily of the current by Fleming's rule. The reciprocal movement of the carriage CA on the sliding shaft Y2 is carried out by reversing the polarity of the current flowing in the coil C. |
