Closure for a bottle or similar, with a cap-shaped holding part (2) provided with an inward-facing projection or collar (3) for engaging the protruding lip of the neck of a bottle, and with a sealing part, independent of the holding part yet connected with it, with an annular sealing surface lying on the surface of the bottle neck. The sealing part is connected to the holding part by means of an elastic element (27) or is itself elastic, forming an excess pressure valve. When the closure seals the neck of a bottle, the holding part, under the tension of the elastic element (27), rests on the upper edge of the bottle neck. When the spring tension registers pressure, the holding part opens, preventing the build-up of excessive pressure. Bottles are thereby prevented from bursting, and the risk of accidents is avoided. |
