A tyre which is partic. for use at building sites and similar has a carcass with belt layers beneath the profiled tread where the base of the profile concerned is sepd. from the outermost belt layer by one of rubber; the thickness of that rubber is at least 13mm. Specifically, the usual carcass (1) has the belt layers (2) embedded in rubber and has conventional beads, (3); the layers (2) are made of usual steel cord or similar. The tread (1) of suitable rubber contains one or more reinforcing layers (6) of steel or other type of cord or fabric. The radially outermost surface of the tread (5) has the profile concerned (7). The layer of rubber between the base (9) of the tread profile grooves and the outermost belt (2) is e.g. 20mm thick so as to prevent any sharp objects from reaching the belts (2). The extra reinforcing layer (6) also contributes to providing this resistance besides imparting the desired stiffness. The structure applies to both new tyres and to retreaded types. ADVANTAGE - The tyre has a high resistance to the entry, of e.g. sharp objects such as arise at e.g. building sites.
