Information in several channels is encoded and rearranged in parallel to form a single code. Two channels can be combined by pulse amplitude modulation of staircase waveforms with carriers in quadrature, the carrier alternating currents being added for transmission. An oscillator may be used with logic gates (G1-G4) and a counter (Z) to drive a relay (ER) and produce phase jumps of 5 deg. for 72 divisions of the period.
