The video recorder has a rotary head drum with 2 heads (K1,K2) each recording half frames within a corresponding group (S1,S2) of inclined recording tracks. Both groups (S1,S2) of inclined recording tracks are used for recording signals from 2 separate signal sources (A.B). During playback the signals from one group are retained via a half frame memory during the dead time. Pref. both heads have separate recording playback signal paths with read-in of signals for one path in a memory synchronous with read-out of the signals for the other path. ADVANTAGE - Provides higher density recording for extended play.
