PURPOSE:To prevent reduction of temperature in a specific cylinder by suspending the explosion combustion in each cylinder in alternate sequence in light-load operation of a 3-cylinder engine and carrying-out explosion combustion in the engine at equal intervals, thus permitting reduced-cylinder operation with light-load smoothly. CONSTITUTION:A pair of tappet valve mechanisms 30 and 40 each of which takes a partial charge of the half in the number of times of operation are installed onto the intake valve 15 of each cylinder of a 3-cylinder engine, and a means 60 for suspending operation of the tappet mechanism 40 is installed onto one tappet valve mechanism 40. When a control circuit into which a signal supplied from a load sensor is inputted detects a light-load state below a set load, said circuit outputs a partial-cylinder operation signal to operate the tappet-valve mechanism stop means 60. If the order of ignition for each cylinder in this case is #1-#3, #1 operates, #2 stops, and #3 operates, and then stops #2, operates, and #3 stops, and reduced-cylinder operation is performed with explosion combustion in equal intervals. Therefore, reduction of temperature in a specific cylinder is prevented, and stable combustion is permitted during transition to all-cylinder operation. |
