<p>The present invention relates to a control device for an element. The device is characterised in that, prior to and during assembly of the latter on a vehicle, a cable carrier sector (8) is positively held in an operating position for the element to be controlled against an operating lever (1) immobilised in an approximately vertical position by a ratchet (14), the lever (1), after fitting of the device on the vehicle, being lowered towards its rest position in such a way that it is automatically attached to the cable carrier sector (8).
