PURPOSE:To enhance the magnetic characteristics by using an R2T17 type intermetallic compound as a principal component and adding a prescribed amount of O to the compound. CONSTITUTION:An intermetallic compound represented by R2T17 (where R is a combination of rare earth metals, and T is a combination of transition metals including essentially Co and Fe in 0.3-0.6 molar ratio of Fe/Co) is refined. This intermetallic compound is finely pulverized, and the surfaces of the particles are oxidized under certain conditions to such as degree that 0.05-1wt% O is contained. The surface oxidized green powder is compression-molded and sintered in a vacuum. Thus, the squareness is improved, the energy product is increased, and superior magnetic characteristics are obtd. |
