The CRT includes an evacuated glass envelope with a rectangular display window (1), a cone (2) and a neck (3). A rectangular anti-implosion band (4) is provided around the display window. The band is metallic and has the same shape as the display window, but a smaller circumference. The metallic band is heated to enlarge its circumference and subsequently placed around the window. Suspension elements (5) are provided on the band to enable suspension of the tube inside a cabinet.
