The invention relates to a new process for manufacturing mechanical and mechano-chemical pulp. It consists in the introduction of water into the pore system of the fibrous raw material - wood, straw with several plant stems, grass, leaves and roots - or makes use of a fibrous raw material which is so fresh that in its pore system it still contains water in the liquid state, and that one freezes the raw material so that the water is transformed to ice. Then the frozen material is processed mechanically e.g. in a crusher-type roller mill so that it is disintegrated into fibre bundles and fibres, whereupon the material is heated at least to such an extent that the ice melts, the final stage being to process the hot material mechanically, e.g. in a crusher-type roller mill, so that the fibre bundles are disintegrated into individual fibres and fibre fragments. After screening, the accept is used for manufacturing paper whereas the reject is returned for reprocessing. By causing the hot processing to proceed in the presence of chemicals, in particular sulphites or alkalis, it is also possible to produce mechano-chemical pulp. |
