CONTROL METHOD FOR MAGNETIC TAPE DEVICE

PURPOSE:To shorten the data access time by setting a caching mode where an internal data buffer is used as a cache memory which stores the specific data on a magnetic tape and the data given from an external device and sends these data to a host computer with designation of this computer. CONSTITUTION:When a caching mode is set with an instruction of a hot computer 10, the specific data on a magnetic tape requested by the computer 10 are read out and stored in an internal data buffer 6 serving as a cache memory. At the same time, the data received from the external devices are also stored in the buffer 6. Thus the computer 10 is just required to read the data out of the buffer 6 since the data necessary for the computer 10 are stored in the buffer 6. Then the read of data is not required to the magnetic tape. Thus the data access time is shortened.
