The optical cable has a carrier body (7) for optical fibres. The carrier has walls (6) extending radially outwards from the cable axis and an external wall or sleeve (3). The optical cable has marks provided on the outer wall or sleeve which allow a given segment, separated by the radial walls (6) of the carrier body, to be localised and the optical core (2) is drawn out of the cable and then eventually given an extra protective sleeve. A reserve length of core is provided for subscribers remote from the control centre. USE - Broadband communications network subscribers.
