Gas-fired heating appliance using infrared radiation brought about by heating a radiating plate. According to the invention, the appliance includes a casing (11) including at least one elongate bar burner (15a), an air inlet (12) and a gas outlet (13), a baffle (20) being formed inside the casing to route dilution air and to allow this circulation of air to knock the flame over towards a metallic radiating plate (16a) which is thus heated uniformly and brought up to a temperature sufficient to emit infrared radiation downwards.
