Concrete paving slabs have a flat centre part with projections from the sides to form open joints when laid. They may be laid in a variety of different patterns. On a side (3) there is a pair of projections (5,6) forming a groove (7) between them at a distance from one corner (9), and a single projection (4) at a distance from the other corner equal to the distance of the centre of the groove (7) from its corner (9), forming a tongue. USE/ADVANTAGE - The slabs can be laid bonded with the opposite projections butting or in straight courses with the tongue fitting inside the groove and giving half the width of joint.
