PURPOSE: To prevent a long-hole burr from occurring by relatively rotating a plurality of cutter inserts across the surface of a commutator and simultaneously eliminating a material from each conductor segment by a wiping operation. CONSTITUTION: The movement of three cutter inserts 42a, 42b, and 42c continues until a specific amount of material is cut from a surface 26 of a commutator 12 by repetitive single machining, thus performing finishing so that no burr is generated at the edge part of a long hole 18. A rotary dial 34 is successively rotated by a 1/6 of a turn after the initial machining, a machined commutator without any long-hole burr is aligned to a rotary brush 56, and a chip is eliminated from the surface of the commutator by the brush. The rotary dial is further rotated by a 1/6 of a turn, the surface of the commutator is aligned to a grinding wheel spindle assembly 32, and the surface 26 of the spindle assembly is finished to a final surface roughness for assuring a proper rubbing between brushing parts of the commutator and an electric motor. |
