The invention relates to burying a pipe in the ground. A flexible and inflatable tubular jacket (1) containing a hauling cable (2) is buried in the ground (S0) at the desired depth, this burying being carried out while the jacket (1) is in the non-inflated state; the jacket (1) is inflated with a liquid (8) under sufficient pressure for the jacket (1) to exhibit an internal passage cross-section greater than that of the pipe (7); the end of the pipe (7) is connected to one end of the cable (2) by its other end to make the pipe 7 progress into the jacket (1), controlling, gradually, the discharge of filling liquid (8) out of the jacket (1); the jacket (1) can be recovered. The invention applies particularly to laying a pipe under the sea or in a borehole produced along the lengthways profile desired for the pipe. <IMAGE>
