A lock for the door of a motor vehicle has a housing (4) which encloses the lock cylinder (6). In the locked position the cylinder is prevented from rotating by means of rotatable catches (7a,7b,7c,7d) which engage longitudinal grooves (5) in the wall of the housing (4). Each catch rotates about an axis (8) and is held in the locking position by a torsion spring (16). Each catch has projecting teeth which are engaged by teeth formed on the shaft (11) of the key (3). As the key is inserted the catches are rotated and release the cylinder (6). USE - Locks for motor vehicle doors.
