PURPOSE:To provide the subject material having excellent strength, elasticity, heat resistance, etc., by containing specific highly strong and elastic inorganic fibers prepared from a metal-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer as a reinforcing material and a specified carbonaceous inorganic substance as a matrix. CONSTITUTION:A fiber-reinforced carbonaceous composite material is prepared from inorganic fibers prepared from a metal-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer as a reinforcing material and from a carbonaceous inorganic material prepared from a silicon-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer as a matrix. The constituting component of the inorganic fibers includes crystalline carbon derived from a mesophase state polycyclic aromatic compound constituting the polymer, amorphous state carbon derived from an organic solvent-insoluble content-containing optically anisotropic polycyclic aromatic compound constituting the polymer and an amorphous substance containing Si, Ti, C, O, etc. The constituting component of the inorganic substance includes crystalline carbon derived from a polycyclic aromatic compound constituting the polymer, amorphous carbon and amorphous substance containing Si, C and O. |
