A connecting body is forced into a hole in the softer of two structures to be joined, the harder structure being composed of a metal and the connecting body is welded to the metal structure, preferably by a resistant spot weld. The connecting body has a cylindrical portion adjacent a conical portion and the large diameter side of the conical portion rests against and is welded to the metal structure. The assembly is particularly suited for the assembly of vehicle bodies using welding automatons.
