Described is a piston for internal-combustion engines, the piston comprising a head and, separate from the head, a shaft made in particular of light alloy, piston head and shaft being jointed together with a pin. The shaft is of basically round section with, superimposed on it, a slight ovality with the major axis lying in the pressure/backpressure direction. In order to improve the sealing action of the piston head, the ovality of the piston shaft is less on the pressure side than on the backpressure side.
