The fluid handling machine, e.g. a pump or compressor, has a rotating part and a further stationary or movable machine part. The surfaces define a sealing gap. One of the two surfaces defining the gap has a flexible seal (5,6,7 etc.) made with fibre materials and contained in individual flexible seal zones.
