<p>PURPOSE:To acquire an elastic support member provided with both durability and a sealing property based on its soft quality by forming a hard outer layer of sol concentration and a soft inner core layer of sol dispersion respectively in a thin sheet body for forming the main part of an elastic support member. CONSTITUTION:An elastic support member 24 elastically supporting the ceramic honeycomb body of a catalytic converter is provided as a main part with a thin sheet body 9 made of ceramic fibers. In this case, an original body 20 of the elastic support member 24 is immersece in a water solution 22 of either or both of silica sol and alumina sol contained in a vessel 21 so that the water solution 22 may be impregnated in the thin sheet body 9. The thin sheet body 9, which is impregnated with the water solution 22, is drying-processed to form a hard outer layer of sol concentration 23a on the outer surface side and a soft inner core layer of sol dispersion 23b on the inner core side respectively.</p> |
