Drawing of optical fibre cable into protective conduit

The conduit (12) is laid conventionally in lengths of a few tens or hundreds of metres between manholes (13,13',13"). The cable (11) is drawn through successive sections (12',12") of conduit in a web (19) supplied from a separate drum (18) and pulled by a hawser (16) secured to the leading end (22) of the web. The rough surface of the material of the web assists in the process, and its width is slightly less than the internal circumference of the conduit (12).
