The electrochemical battery has a pair of lead plate electrodes (1) that are separated by a separator (2) that is in the form of a porous material capable of holding the electrolyte. In the vertical direction the electrodes and separator are divided into zones (T). The separating zones are formed by material that is non porous. An alternative verison has two full separation zones with additional zones formed in the sense isolating separator (2). ADVANTAGE - Provides homogeneous electrolyte distribution.
