CATALYST FOR FUEL CELL AND ELECTRODE USING SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for a fuel cell having high catalytic activity by constituting the catalyst with fine carbon powder and noble metal dispersed and attached thereon and specifying the micropores of the fine carbon powder so that they are distributed around specific diameters. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst consists of fine carbon powder and noble metal dispersed and attached thereon. Micropores of the fine carbon powder are distributed around diameters of 25-70Angstrom . The micropores having a diameter of 25-75Angstrom of the fine carbon powder function as adsorbing nuclei of catalyst noble metal particles having a diameter of 15-30Angstrom . Highly active noble metal particles are supported on sites, effective for methanol oxidation reaction on the fine carbon powder with fine particle state retained. Catalytic activity to liquid fuel such as methanol can be increased.
