For joining two or more webs (1, 2) along joining lines (6) which run transversely with respect to the web-running direction and are at a distance from each other, a glue is applied to at least one of the webs (1), which glue either has the properties to be re-activatable once passivation has taken place, for example drying, or is still passive, non-adhesive, in the state in which it can be applied. The glue is applied in the form of a sizable area (12a), but is subsequently activated only along the desired joining line (6), so that in spite of glue application in the form of an area a narrow joining line is obtained.
