[Also in Division F1] In a diesel-engined vehicle a locking bolt 5, Fig. 1, e.g. for a steering wheel or gear lever, is actuated by a key 10 and co-operates with a fuel cut-off rod 33 to lock the rod 33 in onposition when the bolt is released from its locking position and only freeing it to be moved to the off position when the key has been turned to move the bolt to locking position. As shown the bolt 5 co-operates with a recess 7 in the steering rod 2 and the fuel rod 33 is urged towards the on-position by a spring 40 acting on a sleeve 37 fast with the rod. When the bolt 5 is in locking position, Fig. 1, the rod 33 is held locked in the off position by a plate 41 carried by the bolt. When the key 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), is turned to move the bolt 5 to the released position a member 13', Fig. 3 (not shown) is rotated to slide the bolt 5 sideways, a cam surface 25 depressing the key and lock while it rides over the key so that in the final position the bolt is held by an abutment 24 on the bolt abutting the end of the key. During the sideways movement of the bolt a wide portion 45 of a slot in the plate 41 permits the sleeve 37 to pass therethrough and the rod 33 to move to on-position, in which it is locked by a narrower portion of the slot 45 in the plate 41 passing beneath sleeve 37. When the key 10 is returned to the locking position, bolt 5 is moved leftwards and the plate 41 is moved sideways permitting the rod 33 to be pulled to the off-position in which it is locked by the plate 41 sliding in front of the sleeve 37. A projection 13 on the rotatable panel of the lock rotates a member 18 controlling the starter motor switch and, in a diesel engine having spark ignition for starting, the ignition switch. In a modification the rod 33 is spring-loaded to the off position and the end of sleeve 37 is tapered to allow it to move plate 41 sideways when the rod is moved manually to the onposition.
