PURPOSE:To increase the capacity density of a carbon electrode and reduce self-discharge thereof by providing carbon electrode consisting of a carbon layer containing iron group elements formed by vapor phase cracking of hydrocarbon compounds and another carbon layer covering the surface of the carbon layer and not containing iron group elements. CONSTITUTION:A carbon electrode comprising a carbon layer containing iron group elements formed by vapor phase cracking of hydrocarbon compounds, and another carbon layer covering the surface of the carbon layer and not containing iron group elements. The carbon layer containing iron group elements is formed by accumulating hydrocarbon compounds via vapor phase cracking on a base containing iron group elements, or supplying hydrocarbon compounds onto micro powder containing iron group elements and subjecting them to vapor phase cracking process to produce micro powder containing iron group elements, and molding the powder. The carbon layer not containing iron group elements is formed by the above vapor phase cracking method while accelerating accumulating reaction by means of e.g. enhancement of the density of the hydrocarbon compounds, or sticking resin to the surface of the compounds and carbonizing it, or depositing carbon, etc. |
