PURPOSE:To enhance the volume capacity efficiency of a lithium secondary battery by providing an activated carbon having an oxide group introduced into its surface, and specifying the ratio of the number of oxygen elements to that of carbon elements on its surface. CONSTITUTION:An activated carbon is obtained by introducing an oxide group into its surface, the ratio of oxygen elements to that of carbon elements on its surface being specified. Carboxyl group or sulfonic group, etc., is used as the oxide group to be introduced into the surface of the activated carbon. The ratio of the number of oxygen elements to that of carbon elements is more than 0.1. As the activated carbon for use in a lithium secondary battery, activated carbon particles or activated carbon fiber felt, etc., is used other than activated carbon fiber cloth. |
