PURPOSE:To improve still durability and to obtain the balance of characteristics, such as traveling durability, slippage and sliding noise by making the fatty acid esters incorporated respective layers of magnetic layers satisfy specific quantitative relations. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium has n-layers of the magnetic layers incorporating respectively ferromagnetic powder and binders on a nonmagnetic base. The magnetic layers are formed by dispersing the ferromagnetic powder into the binders. The magnetic layers have a 1st magnetic layer, a 2nd magnetic layer - a n-th magnetic layer in this order from a nonmagnetic base side and the fatty acid ester quantity Es existing on the surface of the n-th magnetic layer is >=7mg/m<2> to <=150mg/m<2>. The Es and the total quantity Ef of the fatty acid esters liberated in the respective magnetic layers and the total quantity Ea of the fatty acid esters adsorbed on the ferromagnetic powder in the respective magnetic layers satisfy the relation expressed by equation I. Thus, the still durability is improved and the excellent balance of the characteristics, such as traveling durability, slippage and sliding noise, is obtd. |
