<p>PURPOSE:To transfer a toner image in the correct position of paper by aligning the edge of the paper by a register roller after a gate device aligns the leading edge of the paper. CONSTITUTION:The leading edge of the paper P butts against the gate device 10 provided upstream of the register roller 1, is stopped and aligned, following which the paper is sent toward an image transfer part via the register roller 1. In this case, the register roller 1 is provided so as to slide horizontally, and an inspecting means 20 is provided to set the home position of the register roller device 1. A means 23 inspecting the side part Pe of the paper P is arranged on the side of a paper carrying path 15. After the gate device 10 stopping the paper P is released, the register roller 1 is moved with the paper P nipped by a roller device 12, the side part Pe of the paper is aligned with a certain position, and the paper P is sent toward the image transfer part.
