Process for the preparation of gum base for chewing gum on the basis of one or more of the ingredients elastomer, plasticizer, softener and filler optionally various auxiliary agents, characterised by 1) melting the softener ingredient by heating to a temperature in the range of 80 to 130 DEG C, 2) adding elastomer and possible additional gum base ingredients to the melted softener ingredient, and 3) subjecting the resulting material to high intensity mixing under high shear conditions in a planet mixer, whereupon additional gum base ingredients in solid or melted form are added under continued high shear conditions. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of a gum base for the preparation of chewing gum. The processing time is substantially reduced and the depolymerisation of the elastomer is decreased. |
