The shoulder straps (4,5) of a chest harness (2), one of which has an integral energy absorber (9), are joined behind the user's neck, passing freely round the pin of a link element (6). A v-format anchor strap (7) is similarly supported on a second pin of the link element. At a preset link element load, the shoulder strap pin is displaced towards and the anchor pin away from the user. Each pin moves against the force of a retaining element into contact with a clamping member. ADVANTAGE - The link element is suitable for v-format anchor straps.
