PURPOSE: To obtain a laser of high output and high efficiency, provided with a long gas sealing life time by constituting a gain medium to be used for a radiant energy source of a gas mixture, including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and deuterium (deuterium in a narrow sense of definition). CONSTITUTION: An envelope 12 of a waveguide laser 10 consists of a ceramic and is provided with a gas ballast area 30, housing a gain medium 20 and a waveguide 18 communicated with this and buried within the material of the envelope 20. The ballast area 30 is provided with an opening to provide an air-tight packing port here, and an electrode 16 combined with a ground surface 40 and an electrode 14 opposite the surface 40 are fixed to both sides of the waveguide 18 for controlling them by a discharge controller 60. Here the gain medium stated consists of a gas mixture including helium, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, xenon, and deuterium with volume ratios set to be 61.6:11.1:18.4:50:30:0.9, respectively. |
