PURPOSE:To obtain the title cutting tool uniform in texture, high in thermal conductivity, and excellent in mechanical strength and toughness etc., by adding a specified amount of ceramic powder such as of SiC to zirconia powder in the form of solid solution containing Y2O3 etc., carrying out wet mixing and grinding followed by drying, forming and sintering. CONSTITUTION:Firstly. zirconia is incorporated with oxide (s) selected from Y2O3, MgO, CaO and CeO2 into a solid solution. Second, the resultant zirconia powder is incorporated with 10-50vol.% of ceramic powder selected from WC, SiC, AIN, TiN, ZrB2 and TiB2. Third, the resulting mixture is put to wet mixing and grinding into a slurry of fine powder 2-4mum in 90% size, 0.5-1mum in 50% size and 3-15m<2>/g in specific surface area. Thence, this slurry is dried and the resultant powder is sintered; thus obtaining the objective zirconia-based cutting tool 0.2-0.6 in the contribution of the parallelized model in the composite rule and 0.015-0.1cal/cm.sec. deg.C in thermal conductivity. |
