摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of creep torque by a method wherein during idle running in a running range, an engaging force regulating means is controlled so that a slip amount, the speed ratio, or the torque ratio of a torque converter is adjusted to a given value. CONSTITUTION:A control device 160 for an automatic transmission operates an engaging force regulating means 80 during idle running in a running range to regulate the engaging force of a friction element, e.g. a forward clutch 15, engaged in a running range, and control 8 slip amount, the speed ratio, or the torque ratio of a torque converter so that they are adjusted to a given value. Concretely, control is effected so that they are adjusted to a value approximately equivalent to a coupling point at which the torque boosting action of the torque converter is rendered ineffective. Thus, creep torque, transmitted from the torque converter to a change-gear set or a drive wheel in a state that the friction element is maintained in an engaging state, on be reduced as much as possible. Further, the generation of can engaging shock during starting is suppressed and reverse moving during starting on a slope can be prevented from occurring.
