DRIVE CONTROLLER FOR SMALL ELECTRIC CAR

PURPOSE:To improve safety by providing noncontact sensors in a vehicle's front bumper for detecting the distance of objects in front of the vehicle and means for automatically decelerating a drive motor for the vehicle when the detected distance is less than a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:Noncontact sensors 38 are received in recesses 42 at the left and right ends of the front bumper 40. A decelerator means 34 includes noncontact sensors 38 for emitting a range-finding signal and receiving the reflected signal, and a detector 39 for determining the distance between the vehicle and an object in response to information from the noncontact sensor 38. If the distance becomes less than a predetermined value, an electric motor is decelerated to a low speed.
