Process for treating recycled water used to dilute a paper pulp intended to be drained with a view to improving its drainability. According to the process the recycled water is treated with an enzyme preparation containing cellulases and/or hemicellulases and/or other enzymes which have an action on all or part of the constituents of cellulose fibres. Application of the process for the treatment of recycled water employed especially for diluting a paper pulp based on waste paper.
