PURPOSE:To attain rapid access without executing mechanical scanning by connecting plural phase changing means, changing an optical phase speed and propagating light through reflecting media. CONSTITUTION:An optical pulse generator 1 inputs an optical pulse to one end of an optical waveguide 2 to guide it to reflecting media R1 to RN. The phase of the optical pulse is changed by plural phase changing means during the propagation of the pulse through the media R1 to RN. The optical pulse reflected by respective media R1 to RN and returned to the direction of the generator 1 is separated and outputted by a directional coupler C and the phase difference between respective beams is detected as information. Thereby, the relative phase of adjacent signals can be limited only a fine phase change against some oscillation frequency variation. Consequently, stable operation can be compensated and rapid access can be attained without executing mechanical scanning. |
