A post-mix type dispenser having evaporator coils (20) configured in a manner to form ice slab (37) is controlled by a thermostat (25) so that a vertically oriented passage is formed in the center of the slab (37) to allow the rotation of an impeller shaft (73). With the cooling chamber (65) and a passage for connecting with dispenser valves being insulated beneath and beside the compressor (17) and other heat-generating components of the cooling unit (15), the impeller (23) is thus able to operate beneath the slab (37) to circulate cooled water around beverage conduits (27) that are layered in a compact configuration, the overall arrangement of the dispenser (32) being compact and resulting in an easily serviceable dispenser (32) having a low profile while also providing a large ice slab (37) and enabling optimum heat exchange between the beverage conduits (27) and the slab (37) without causing freezing of the beverages. |
