<p>A loudspeaker element comprises a frame (1) which supports a planar diaphragm (4), an electric conductor (6) in the form of a coil or grid being secured to the diaphragm (4), and magnetic field generating means (7) being provided to generate magnetic fields which intersect the conductor (6). The element is characterized in that the diaphragm is made of light weight woven cloth having open mesh. The conductor (6) is secured to a first region (5) of the diaphragm (4). The open mesh at the first region (5) is closed by means such as lacquer or stencil film. A second region (5A) of the diaphragm (4) surrounds the first region (5). The frame (1) covers the second region (5A) and acts as a baffle to prevent signal cancellation at lower frequencies. The element is also characterised by at least two generally parallel spaced planar louvres (27, 28) supported at about 45° to the plane of the diaphragm (4). The louvres (27, 28) incline towards opposite sides of the diaphragm (4) and leave a central strip of the diaphragm (4) exposed.</p> |
