The cylinder is for a piston engine with liquid-cooled lubricating oil tank. A coolant-liquid jacket extends between the cylinder liner and cylinder wall between the liquid inlet and outlet, and compels the liquid to travel in a spiral path. The jacket is enclosed by a lubricating-oil vessel (9) connected (10, 11) to the engine lubrication system. The cylinder wall (6) can be profiled (15) to give good heat transfer between coolant and vessel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cylinder for IC engine is lightweight, compact and gives rapid warming up of engine.
